Special attention is given to creative activities based
upon a wide range of two- and three-dimensional projects. Painting, sculpture,
printmaking, collage and drawing techniques are taught. A variety of materials
are used including colored pencils, clay, foamcore, charcoal, pastel,
acrylic, watercolor and markers. Supplies included.

6 - 12 years Students work with a variety
of drawing and painting materials creating aesthetic projects from
a vast array of subjects. Color and line, creativity, perception,
and imagination are considered and encouraged in a constructive atmosphere.

Experience creativity together as you work side by side with your child
(or grandchild, nephew, niece, etc.) on art projects using a variety of

Drawing Fundamentals 9
- 15 years
Explore the fundamental concepts of drawing such as
line, volume and perspective while working with a variety of drawing materials.
Focus will be placed on learning how to see the world around us and translating
this newfound vision into the two-dimensional world of drawing. Students
may repeat this course to refine their drawing capabilities. Student furnishes
own supplies. Prerequisite: None.
Drawing Techniques 12
- 15 years
Learn to hone your drawing skills and expand your potential
as an artist with a more in-depth exploration of the tools and techniques
used in drawing. The evolution of a drawing will unfold as you study how
to get the most out of line, value, texture and color through a series
of creative projects. Student furnishes own supplies. Prerequisite: Drawing
Fundamentals.

Cartooning 8
- 14 years
Develop a personal style of cartoon drawing through
the creation of comics, spot cartoons and other forms of humorous illustration.
Emphasis is placed on originality and line drawing with various media.
Investigation of contemporary cartoon characters rounds out this course.

In this class, students will draw from a model clothed

Figure Drawing
Teen, Teen/Adult
Fundamental skills, techniques, and concepts will be
introduced. Charcoal, graphite, conté and other various materials
will be used. Anatomy, proportion, line quality and volume will be emphasized.
Student furnishes own supplies. Prerequisite: Previous figure drawing
experience for intermediate and advanced levels.

Explore the basic techniques and concepts of painting
such as color theory, composition, color mixing, brushwork, blending and
glazes. Emphasis is placed on developing skills and pursuing an imaginative

Painting 12

Teen/Adult
Basic techniques are taught with a focus on developing
skills and pursuing an imaginative and personal approach to the subject.
Brushwork and analysis of value and color will be emphasized. Student

Sculpture Techniques and Materials 10 -
13 years NEW
Traditional, contemporary and experimental sculpture
techniques and skills will be taught using a wide variety of materials
such as clay, wood, stone, wire and plaster. Instructor will assist students
in creating aesthetic and personally expressive works in three-dimensions.
Supplies included. Prerequisite: Drawing Fundamentals recommended.
Photography Teen
NEW
This class will start you on a new way of seeing and
developing your aesthetic, photographic vision. Through slides, discussion,
historical study and critiques, students will learn technical aspects
of photography with the primary emphasis on guided viewing and creative
camera work. Student furnishes fully manual digital or non-digital camera,
film and processing. Prerequisite: None. Portfolio review required for
intermediate and advanced levels.
Private Tutoring and Critiques
Private tutoring for all levels of students
as well as private critiques for intermediate and advanced students and
professional artists may be arranged. The fee is $100 per hour, supplies
additional. It is not necessary for the individual(s) to be currently
attending a class at Brentwood Art Center. Sessions for groups of two
or more students also available; please inquire.
