Art with Me 
4–7 years or 6–9 years with adult NEW
Experience creativity together as you work side by side with your child (or grandchild, nephew, niece, etc.) on art projects using a variety of materials. Supplies included.

Mixed Media (includes Drawing and Painting)  
4 - 12 years
Special attention is given to creative activities based upon a wide range of two- and three-dimensional projects. Painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage and drawing techniques are taught. A variety of materials are used including colored pencils, clay, foamcore, charcoal, pastel, acrylic, watercolor and markers. Supplies included.

Drawing and Painting   
7 - 12 years

Students work with a variety of drawing and painting materials creating aesthetic projects from a vast array of subjects. Color and line, creativity, perception, and imagination are considered and encouraged in a constructive atmosphere. Supplies included.

Drawing Fundamentals  12 - 15 years
Explore the fundamental concepts of drawing such as line, shape, form, volume, spatial relationships, and perspective while working with a variety of drawing materials. Focus will be placed on learning how to see the world around us and translating this newfound vision into the two-dimensional world of drawing. Students will study various artists along with their styles and influences in art history. Some supplies included. Prerequisite: None.

Cartooning  9 - 13 years    
Develop a personal style of cartoon drawing through the creation of comics, spot cartoons and other forms of humorous illustration. Emphasis is placed on originality and line drawing with various media. Investigation of contemporary cartoon characters rounds out this course. Supplies included. Prerequisite: Drawing Fundamentals recommended.

Figure Drawing (non-nude)  Teen
In this class, students will draw from a model clothed in a swimsuit. For a further description of this course, see below. Prerequisite: Drawing Fundamentals recommended.


Figure Drawing  Teen/Adult
Working from the nude model, fundamental skills and techniques will be introduced. Charcoal, graphite, conté and other materials will be used. Anatomy, proportion, line quality and volume are emphasized. Student furnishes own supplies. Prerequisite: None.

Painting Fundamentals: Focus on Pop Art
 12 yrs - Teen NEW
Explore the basic techniques and concepts of painting such as color theory, composition, color mixing, brushwork, blending, glazes and other acrylic painting techniques as they relate to the popular and influential Pop Art period from the 1950’s. Study the works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann, Wayne Thiebaud, James Rosenquist and others. Emphasis is placed on developing skills and pursuing an imaginative and personal approach. Student furnishes own supplies. Prerequisites: Drawing Fundamentals. Drawing Techniques recommended.


Figure Painting
 Teen NEW
Students will study traditional and contemporary techniques of mixing and applying paint, analyzing value, color and light, and developing volume. The instructor will also assist students in achieving an aesthetic and personally expressive style. Student furnishes own supplies. Prerequisite: Figure Drawing. Painting Fundamentals recommended.

Photography  Teen NEW
Enhance your way of seeing and develop your aesthetic, photographic vision. Through slides, discussion, historical study and critiques, students will learn technical aspects of photography with the primary emphasis on guided viewing and creative camera work. Student furnishes fully manual digital or non-digital camera, film and processing. Prerequisites: None for beginners. Beginning Photography and/or portfolio review required for intermediate/advanced levels. Consent Form PDF

Private Tutoring and Critiques
Private tutoring for all levels of students as well as private critiques for intermediate and advanced students and professional artists may be arranged. The fee is $100 per hour, supplies additional. It is not necessary for the individual(s) to be currently attending a class at Brentwood Art Center. Sessions for groups of two or more students also available; please inquire.
