Beginning Drawing
In this class, you will explore the fundamental concepts of drawing, such as line, shape, form, volume, spatial relationships and perspective while working with a variety of drawing materials. Students will focus on learning how to see the world around them and how to translate this newly found vision into the two-dimensional world of drawing. A great class to start with if you don’t have much experience!

Intermediate/Advanced Drawing
Develop enhanced observational drawing skills as you further investigate line, value, form, perspective, texture, and color. Learn to create dynamic and compelling drawings using charcoal, graphite, pen and ink, colored pencils, and various other media. Beginning drawing required before enrolling.

Drawing in Pastel
Students spend the first two weeks working in charcoal to strengthen their skill in value before moving on to the more complex techniques of layering such as blending, hatching, transition tones, and controlling and separating values. Class is structured so that each lesson builds on the previous. Each student will see their work improve from project to project.

Art of Color: Fauvism & Matisse
This class will focus on the fundamentals of color theory while working on primarily abstract, Matisse inspired painting projects. In this class we will explore color perception, its relationship to painting, and how a deeper understanding of base pigments can lead to effective color mixing. Students will have fun with a variety of projects that delve into warm/cool color relationships, composing with color as well as value and color interaction. We will also study the psychological effects of color and how to use that knowledge to help choose the best palette for your artwork. This class is great for the beginning or pre-beginning painter as well as the experienced painter who wants to learn more about color.

Art of Color: Color, Composition & Notan
Notan is a Japanese design concept that addresses the balance between light and dark elements in an artwork. In this class we will explore the creation of freely constructed images based on harmonic relations between colors, and dark and light patterns. We will also look at Japanese art to discuss a theory of “flat” formal equilibrium as an essential component of pictorial creation.

Beginning Abstract Painting
It can be daunting to enter the world of abstraction.  How will you know what to paint when there is nothing in front of you to use as a guide?  This class is designed to gently guide the beginning abstract student into a different mode of painting, where one can play with ideas of composition, color, form, space, and surface in a direct way.  In the ten week course there will be five assignments, each utilizing a different plan of attack.  The first three paintings will be using nature as a starting-off point, breaking down familiar forms to discover their abstract essence.  The 4th and 5th assignments will use familiar ways of graphic thinking as a means to discover the poetry of abstract shapes.

Intermediate/Advanced Painting Studio
This class has been designed for students who wish to explore and develop their own personal techniques. Students work on their own individual projects under the guidance of the instructor. There is a critique period each class meeting, which will allow the students to strengthen their ability to discuss their own work, as well as others. Students may have a variety of interests and the instructor works to inspire each student, and to build and grow from their strengths to create their best work. Art history, art appreciation, and color theory are a large part of the curriculum in this lively class.

This workshop has been designed for students who wish to explore and expand on painting and/or drawing as a comprehensive art form. Students work on their own individual projects under the highly individualized guidance of the instructor with an emphasis on personal development, experimentation, process, and encouraging students to create a fulfilling arts practice rooted in drawing. Students work from photos or still life depending on their needs and interests and work at their own pace. Students may have a variety of interests and the instructor works to inspire each student through art history, conceptual creation, technical development, personal aesthetics and the occasional group critique leading to each student achieving their best work.

Abstract Painting Studio
Develop techniques that create rich textural surfaces, glazed and stained fields of color, and aesthetic ways of organizing space. The strength, sensitivity and rhythm of form, line, value, shape, pattern, and color will be examined. Teacher will work with each student individually, to help them understand the concepts behind non-representational painting. Students are encouraged to explore their own styles and techniques. Portrait & Figure Drawing Studio
This workshop has been designed for students who wish to explore and expand on drawing the figure and the face as a comprehensive art form. A model is present each week. Students work under the highly individualized guidance of the instructor with an emphasis on personal development, experimentation, process, and encouraging students to create a fulfilling figurative arts practice rooted in drawing. Techniques with graphite, charcoal, and conte will be demonstrated by the teacher and developed. Students will work towards the goal of drawing the human form accurately, and develop their ability to capture their model’s unique features and personality.

Art Of Collage
Collage is an expressive medium that combines found materials. Students will bring a personal element to their art by including their own photos, papers, and drawings. This class combines drawing and painting using a variety of mediums such as charcoal, graphite, pastels, colored pencils and more. Themes and assignments will be given by the instructor.

In this course, students will cover the basics of drawing, painting and printmaking.The course is designed to help students who are new to art-making choose a path which seems to interest them the most. Figure Sculpture
This course is the study of the human figure as sculptural form. Emphasis is on proportion, anatomy, and construction by direct observation of the model. Students will explore the techniques used for understanding contour of form, line, composition, and gesture. Students will purchase materials at the school. Both oil and water clay are used.

Beginning Wheel Pottery
In our pottery courses students will become familiar with the ins and outs of the potter’s wheel while learning to throw various vessels including bowls, vases, and mugs. Kids’ Classes

Mixed Media (4-5 Yrs to 8-11 Yrs)
Special attention is given to creative activities based upon a wide range of two- and three-dimensional projects. Painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, and drawing techniques are taught. A variety of materials are used, including colored pencils, charcoal, pastel, acrylic and watercolor, and markers. Supplies are included.

Drawing & Painting (9-12 Yrs to 12-15 Yrs)
Students work with an array of drawing and painting materials creating a wide range of aesthetic projects from a variety of subjects. Color, line and texture, creativity, perception, and imagination are explored in a constructive atmosphere.

Cartooning (8-11 Yrs to 10-13 Yrs)
This course will empower students by creating characters and laying out cartoon settings in a progressive manner using multiple shapes, lines, simple shortcuts, and color application to construct artwork in both their own unique style and in a way that will instill confidence and creativity.

Clay Sculpture (9-12 Yrs)
In this class for 9-12 year olds students will create functional pieces and figurine sculptures out of clay. Students will develop basic building techniques such as pinch, coil and slab. Emphasis will be placed on surface decoration by creating textures and working with underglazes. Students of all levels are welcome!
