All children’s classes take a 10 minute snack break. Students may bring snacks from home, or purchase from the vending machine.
We ask that students NOT share their snacks, due to risk of allergic reaction or dietary restrictions.
Mixed Media (5-6 Yrs to 7-9 Yrs)
Special attention is given to creative activities based upon a wide range of two- and three-dimensional projects. Painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, and drawing techniques are taught. A variety of materials are used, including colored pencils, charcoal, pastel, acrylic and watercolor, and markers. Supplies are included.
Drawing & Painting (9-12 Yrs to 12-15 Yrs)
Students work with an array of drawing and painting materials creating a wide range of aesthetic projects from a variety of subjects. Color, line and texture, creativity, perception, and imagination are explored in a constructive atmosphere.
Cartooning (8-11 Yrs to 10-13 Yrs)
This course will empower students by creating characters and laying out cartoon settings in a progressive manner using multiple shapes, lines, simple shortcuts, and color application to construct artwork in both their own unique style and in a way that will instill confidence and creativity.
Clay Sculpture (8-12 Yrs)
In this class for 8-12 year olds students will create functional pieces and figurine sculptures out of clay. Students will develop basic building techniques such as pinch, coil and slab. Emphasis will be placed on surface decoration by creating textures and working with underglazes. Students of all levels are welcome!
Fashion Illustration (9-13 Yrs)
In this course students will be introduced to the world of fashion illustration. This class will cover figure proportion, fabric rendering, pattern design, and a variety of illustration styles and fashion design concepts.
Teen Drawing & Painting Studio (13+ Yrs)
This workshop has been designed for students who wish to explore and develop their own personal drawing and painting techniques. Students work on their own individual projects under the guidance of the instructor. There is a critique period each class meeting, which will allow the students to strengthen their ability to discuss their own work as well as others. Students may have a variety of interests and the instructor works to inspire each student, to build and grow from their strengths to create their best work. Students furnish their own supplies.
Figure Drawing (Adult/Teen 14+ Yrs)
Explore classical as well as contemporary figure drawing techniques and approaches to developing the human form. Emphasis is placed upon observation, anatomy, structure, line quality, volume, composition and originality. Techniques with graphite, charcoal, conté, colored pencil, and pastel are demonstrated and developed.
The Silent Novel (14+ Yrs)
Students will study the wordless graphic novels of Lynd Ward and Frans Masereel as well as contemporary masters such as Shaun Tan, and create a short work based on either a pre-existing narrative or their own. The class will cover research and concept development, narrative structure, visual continuity and clarity.
This class is a 10-week session class. Drawing experience necessary.
