As nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the Brentwood Art Center (BAC) is committed to ensuring equitable access to the arts. Each semester the Friends of the Brentwood Art Center awards need-based scholarships and provides financial support to low-income adults and children by reducing or eliminating class fees. In 2017-2018 BAC awarded more than $58,000 in scholarships to 43 adults and 29 children in need.
Applications must be received at least 3 weeks before the start of the semester. Applications received after this point may not be considered.
Applications are reviewed before the start of each semester and applicants will be notified in advance of the start of classes.
Please note that a new application form is required each semester.
When completing an application you will be asked to provide basic contact information, the class that you would like to apply for, a short explanation of the reason for your application, and evidence of your financial circumstances.
If you have any issues with the form or any questions about the process, please call us on (310) 451-5657 and our advisors will be happy to assist you.
Financial aid is awarded in three tiers: 90%, 50% and 25% of tuition. Eligibility for these will be based on income level and household size, according to the following thresholds:
|Household Size||90% Assistance Income Threshold||50% Assistance Income Threshold||25% Assistance Income Threshold|
Eligibility is not a guarantee of financial aid. Applications will be considered and approved on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we recommend applying early each semester.
The Brentwood Art Center will work with you to find a class that fits your needs and your schedule, but we cannot guarantee that you will be able to attend your first preference of class. We recommend listing up to 3 classes that you would like to take in your application. Financial aid is limited to one class per student per semester.
Continuing in a class
If you wish to continue in a class in the following semester, we must receive an application for the next semester at least 3 weeks before the beginning of the semester to hold your space in the class. Specific deadline dates will be published on the Brentwood Art Center website each semester.
Payment of your portion of tuition can either be made in full at the start of a semester, or in monthly installments during the semester. If some other arrangement or timing of payments would work better for you, please contact us and we will work with you to find a solution that fits your needs.
Students receiving financial aid will be entitled to the same provisions and status as other students at the Brentwood Art Center. Policies regarding makeup classes, priority enrollment periods, and cancellation and refunds will apply to all enrolled students, regardless of the amount of financial aid they receive.
The Brentwood Art Center admits students of any race, color, religion, national origin, ethnic origin and sexual preference to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship, and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
